The beauty of the wild is getting farther and farther from man every year. With the onset of urbanization, the number of constructions increases, large-scale buildings are being erected, humanity nowadays almost entirely lives in the stone jungle, content with the small number of protected areas and parks that are in every city.
The largest cities went even further and began to establish “green corridors” in them, which will be discussed in this blog.
What is it?
Green corridor is a long road with trees and plants along the path, they are often laid along rivers, but this is not necessary. Such a road usually connects several districts, being a kind of network of paths that combine into a long corridor. Walking along such a road, a person can enjoy the smell of plants, the beauty of nature, listen to birds and see various tree dwellers. It is ideal for jogging, long walks, outdoor gatherings and even work. After all, sometimes you really want to sit down somewhere on a bench, enjoying the fresh air, while being able not to be distracted from important matters. Green corridors suit all of these whims and can serve as a great motivation to spend more time outdoors.
What is it for?
The presence of such green corridors in large cities entails a lot of benefits, both for mankind and animals.
For example, people will use bicycles more, because riding in such places is a pleasure. Hiking will take on a new meaning for the citizens, and the opportunity to meet in nature will dilute the meetings in cafes and restaurants that have become standard. Above all, this is a safe way to move on the street, because there are no cars in the green corridors. Parents can be calm about their children, and children can enjoy freedom and plenty of running while walking. It will be possible to enjoy clean air, because the corridors are equipped with a large number of plants and trees, which ensures the production of oxygen.
How does it work?
Most residents of megalopolises would like to have a walking area no further than 1 km from their place of residence. If you draw a green corridor through the city, thereby uniting several districts, you can provide a comfortable distance from the house to the green corridor for people. Thus, people can choose a location in an environmentally friendly place that will be comfortably equipped for their pastime.
Where are green corridors already installed?
Montreal. Montreal Green Corridor has about 346 alleys.
Mexico City. Combined with bike paths.
Seoul. The green corridor runs along the river.
London. In 2019, London was awarded the title of the world's first city with parks and green spaces covering more than 50% of the territory.
Singapore. It is also called the “garden city”. Thanks to the established green corridors, it is still possible to enjoy the beautiful nature that is side by side with the industrial modern part of the city.
